Meet the Baker Lab
Alissa Baker, MD, is an Assistant Professor in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Her clinical focus is in pediatric sarcomas with an interest in identifying biomarkers of metastases, as well as identifying new adjuvant therapies for this high-risk patient population. Dr. Baker joined the Montefiore team in 2018.
Dr. Baker received her Doctor of Medicine from Penn State College of Medicine. She completed her residency in Pediatrics at Yale-New Haven Hospital, where she led the Quality Improvement team for the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology unit. Following residency, she completed her fellowship in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Johns Hopkins Hospital and The National Institutes of Health.
In 2017, Dr. Baker received the Pearl M. Stetler Grant for Women Physicians. In 2018, she received the Paul Calabresi K12 Award in Clinical Oncology for her research in Ewing sarcoma biology. Dr. Baker is board certified and an active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics. In addition, she is a member of the American Association for Cancer Research and the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation.
Anusha Singhal, MS, is a research technician in the Baker lab. She joined the lab in June 2024, after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania with her MS in Biotechnology. Anusha received her B.Tech. in Biotechnology from Amity University in India.
Anusha was a recipient of the judges choice award at the AECOM Pediatric Research Day 2025 for her poster presentation focusing on GABA Shunt as a potential target in Ewing Sarcoma. She also has a published paper in the PNAS Nexus journal focusing on her undergraduate thesis: “Cyclic di-AMP regulates genome stability and drug resistance in Mycobacterium through RecA-dependent and -independent recombination”.
Outside of the lab, Anusha volunteers at the ASPCA animal shelter and enjoys visiting museums around New York City.
